Bar

Since I'm marrying an Australian, the liquor at the wedding is very important.  In addition to lots of beer & wine, we plan to have waiters serving Lava Flows and another specialty drink immediately following the ceremony and throughout the cocktail hour.  Jameson whiskey, beer and wine. For an after dinner drink, guests will have the option of either a tequila shot or a "duck fart."  I'll make up a "drink menu" and put it in a black frame on the bar to tell people the significance behind the drinks.
  • Lava Flows: my second favorite drink (strawberry daiquiris would look bad all over my dress)
  • Unknown Specialty drink:
  • Jameson Whiskey: Glenn & I went on a tour of a Jameson distillery on the tour that we met on.
  • Tequila: It was after a number of tequila shots (my first ever) that we decided to continue our travels together.  We joke that it all started because of tequila.
  • Duck Farts (crown, bailey's, kahlua): After Glenn proposed, we decided to celebrate by turning Mexican Train Dominoes into a drinking game.

Favors

We ordered these from FavorFavor to serve the after-dinner drinks in.  60 shot glasses (minimum order) for a little over $100 including special glass shipping to Hawaii.

Food

We looked into hiring Bev Gannon's catering company, Celebrations.  Their food is probably the best on the island.  Unfortunately, the pricing is not customer friendly (flatware, glasses & dishes are priced separately from the food), and the communication and attention to detail was very disappointing.

Now, we're looking at Aloha Events Catering. www.alohaeventscatering.com
In a comparison of Celebrations & Aloha, the same food options & same service, Aloha was approximately $3000 cheaper than Celebrations (for 60 guests).

The Cake

I want a very simple, clean cake design.  We both love chocolate...I can't wait to go cake tasting!

FI and I loved our tasting with JoAnn! FI wanted to schedule another one just to get more sweets.

We tried the Chocolate, vanilla and lemon cakes.
  • We thought the vanilla was a tad dry and plain
  • The chocolate and lemon were amazing!
We tried Chantilly, raspberry mousse, chocolate mousse, vanilla custard, Bailey's custard.
  • She described Chantilly as whipped cream with extra butter.  It tastes a bit like the vanilla custard, but richer!  **We loved the chocolate with Chantilly, but it's super rich**
  • Raspberry mousse was amazing! We thought ours was the perfect balance between sweet and tart.  She said she could also add real raspberries on the day of.  **We liked the raspberry the best with the lemon cake**
  • Bailey's custard tastes just like it sounds, but it was a bit much for us.
  • Chocolate mousse and chocolate custard were yummy.  The mousse is obviously fluffier and lighter tasting than the custard, light fluffy brown vs. really dense, moist dark brown texture.  Needless to say, our "sweet tooth"s liked the custard better.  Other than that, they're hard to tell apart.
  • I can't even remember the vanilla custard, so that may tell you something about it.

We would've tried more if we had time.
Our final picks were two smaller layers of lemon with the raspberry mousse filling and the bottom layer of chocolate with Chantilly filling.
